The Lake District
Three days of rain in Cumbria, and the few minutes in between.
First light
Ten minutes after sunrise, the mist just starting to lift. The fence that walks out into the lake, the fells still asleep, and nobody else on the shore.
The lone tree
The tree everyone photographs, on a morning when nobody else came. Mist on the water, the sun just clearing the ridge. I made two frames and put the camera away.
The second frame
Wider, with the sun over the ridge and the fells let back in. By then the mist had started to move, and so had I.
The hut
Found by accident on a wet walk, and kept for the way the light fell on it for a few minutes before the next front came in over the fells.
The gate
Evening on Derwentwater. A gate that opens onto nothing but water, a minute-long exposure to calm the lake and smear the clouds, the gulls sitting it out on the fence posts — and Cat Bells going dark behind.
